We are commercializing an energy-absorbing technology originally invented in the Stanford University bioengineering and neurosurgery departments. Profile

You are an experienced maker with a curiosity about how things work and how they are made. You are analytical, resourceful, organized, and thrive in a startup environment. You have designed products and worked with overseas contract manufacturers to successfully mass produce your products. You exercise good judgment knowing when to act swiftly to make progress and when to slow down and dig into every little detail. You hate to lose, love to win and are eager to lead or follow as the situation demands.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and ready for manufacture new hardware products on-time, on-budget
  • Develop quality systems to ensure products with SoftShox technology perform as expected
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize engineering test data related to hardware products.
  • Prototype with a variety of materials and processes, including but not limited to: foams, fabrics, composites, silicone molding, metals, plastics, 3D printing, CNC, RF welding, etc.
  • Establish and manage contract manufacturing, supplier, and consultant relationships.
  • Communicate complex technical topics simply to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create inventions and provides technical expertise to IP protection efforts.
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to build a successful company

Mission

Required

  • Experience at an early stage hardware company that made products for mass production (>10K units)
  • Developed at least 5 products from Proof of Concept to Commercialization in the past 10 years
  • Have made multiple trips to overseas factories that manufacture the products you have designed
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Biomedical engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years of product engineering and manufacturing experience
  • Experience with rapid prototyping of components and assemblies of complex hardware products
  • Experience managing the quality of products developed by an overseas contract manufacturer
  • Desire to create incredible products and be challenged daily
  • Willingness to take on any task that moves the company forward, no ego
  • Passion for the mission of traumatic brain injury prevention
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States

Preferred

  • Experience engineering softgoods, fabrics, medical devices, fluid delivery systems, and/or composites
  • Experience working in regulated or semi-regulated industries, i.e., medical device, personal protective equipment, military
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, both employees and contractors
  • Experience leading the selection and establishment of a contract manufacturing partner
  • Experience developing finite element models
  • Experience protecting intellectual property
