Mission

Responsibilities

  • Assist in Basic CNC Operations: Learn the fundamentals of CNC machining by supporting experienced machinists in operating and setting up machines.
  • Material and Tooling Preparation: Help prepare materials, tools, and fixtures for machining, gaining knowledge of material properties and tool selection.
  • CAM Software Training: Receive training on Fusion 360 CAM software to create basic toolpaths and programs.
  • Part Setup and Fixturing: Support part setup for machining, including work-holding and fixture preparation.
  • Machine Maintenance: Assist with basic maintenance tasks, such as monitoring oil, filters, and calibration.
  • Additive Manufacturing Exposure: Understand the various applications of 3D printing technologies in prototyping and production.
  • Inspection and Quality Control: Learn to apply basic measurement techniques using calipers, micrometers, and other tools to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams: Participate in manufacturability discussions and gain exposure to design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Shop Safety: Follow safety protocols and standard operating procedures for CNC machining.

Profile

Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and December 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn and gain hands-on experience in CNC machining and Additive Manufacturing within a fast-paced, innovative environment. As an intern, you will work closely with our Senior CNC Machinist and engineering teams to build foundational skills in prototyping manufacturing operations, including design for manufacturing, programming, setup, and running parts on multi-axis equipment and a range of 3D printing technologies.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong desire to develop skills in CNC machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback.
  • Hands-on machining experience, highly preferred.
  • Project work where a candidate has prototyped in a machining environment, preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships : The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law.

Rivian provides robust wellness benefits, and a medical insurance package for interns, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
